Dr. Adolf Mbaine Retires After 28 Years of Service at Makerere University.

Makerere University bids farewell to Dr. Adolph Mbaine, who has retired after an outstanding 28-year career at Uganda’s oldest public university. His retirement was paid an emotional tribute during the annual media conference organized by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Makerere University, which was chaired by Minister Kabyanga.

Dr Mbaine who is a pillar of the Journalism Department expressed his deep gratitude to Makerere University for allowing him to teach for almost three decades. "I am grateful to Makerere for giving me the opportunity to create such an impact to young people in this industry. My last wish is for the department to be develpoed into a School of Journalism. It has been a work in Progress but I hope it comes to pass." Dr Mbane said enthusiastically.

Dr. Mbaine's academic successes have been impressive as has his teaching career. He holds a Doctorate in Literature and Philosophy from the University of Johannesburg, a Master of Arts in Journalism and Media Studies from Rhodes University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from Makerere University. Throughout his career, Dr Mbaine shaped the future of journalism in Uganda. His dedication towards the students and outstanding academic contribution has left him deeply imprinted in the hearts of the university and countless students passing out from his classes.

During the conference, several staff members and alumni took the opportunity to pay tribute to Dr. Mben, acknowledging his significant impact. He is known as an idol, mentor and invaluable supporter of journalism whose legacy will continue to inspire future generations of journalists.

Dr. Mabine's request for the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication to become a school is emblematic of his vision for the future of journalism education in Makerere. As the department moves forward, his contributions and aspirations will undoubtedly guide its path.
