The 2025 BET Awards went down on June 9th at the Peacock Theater in L.A, serving nothing but heat, nostalgia, and raw Black excellence. From Kevin Hart’s shady monologue to jaw-dropping performances by Ashanti, GloRilla, and even a 106 & Park tribute that had everyone screaming “BET after dark” — the night was a celebration of Black culture across the globe.
The Africans did not come to play at the BET awards . Nigerian sweetheart Ayra Starr—a true icon bagged the coveted Best International Act, beating fellow African artists Rema (Nigeria), Black Sherif (Ghana), Tyla (South Africa), and Uncle Waffles (Swaziland). It was a well-deserved win for the 22-year-old who’s been on a global roll.
The BET Awards have always been that one night where Black culture pulls up and takes center stage—loud, proud, and unapologetically iconic. It’s where legends are crowned, new stars are born, and the magic of Black music, fashion, film, and activism is celebrated in its purest form. For the Black community, it’s not just an award show—it’s a cultural reunion, a statement, and a reminder that we set the trends, shape the sound, and move the world.
